X Men: First Class is a mix of a strong story and genuine performances, which is why it is known as an entertaining sci-fi comic book adaptation in the X Men franchise. However, the noisy soundtrack and fast editing may get quite tedious in some parts of the film.
The X Men franchise has gone through a huge amount of suffering in the quality department with most of the recent films in the franchise. X Men: First Class jumps to the rescue by bringing a strong story to the table along with genuine performances that are brought to life by fascinating characters which are all combined together to make it a rip-roaring comic book sci-fi tale, which covers the beginnings of the mutants whom we’ve come to know in the previous films. The remarkable thing about Matthew Vaughn’s direction is that he was able to juggle a number of storylines very convincingly and then was able to merge all of them together as the mutants meet and get to know each other. The most confronting story of them all would be the origin of Erik or Magneto from his appearance in the Auschwitz concentration camp up to the time when he hunts down his former Nazi captors. Because Michael Fassbender hits all of the right performance marks, he was able to produce a story, which makes for very compelling viewing. This tragic story is contrasted with the worry free upbringing of Charles Xavier who is played perfectly by James McAvoy. He plays the character with with, fun, and smarts that make him both a formidable and compassionate member of X Men. The dynamic roles of Erik and Xavier is interesting and fascinating at the same time. This is so because they share a close bond but end up as ideological opponents later on.
The film was set in the 1960s and its subplot involves the villain Sebastian Shaw, which is played by Kevin Bacon. It is a fun reinterpretation of real history specifically with its emphasis on the Cuban Missilie Crisis. Because of this element as well as the multiple character arcs, the movie gets a huge, epic scope that is really fun to watch. Overall, X Men: First Class is a film with an awesome story; fascinating characters; stunning images and special effects; and strong performances from its exquisite cast.
